Abstract
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate 14 school-based mental health improvement programs of the ¡®Seoul Mental Health School¡¯, and to verify how the program for the improvement of sociality (hereafter ¡®Mind Class¡¯) was effective in improving the peer relational skills of the students who participated in the program.

Method : From March, 2013 to July, 2015, this study asked 3,870 students from 36 schools(22 elementary schools, 14 middle schools) which located in Seoul and ran the ¡®Seoul Mental Health School¡¯ to verify how much the ¡®Mind Class¡¯ could improve the peer relational skills of the participants. This study used the peer relational skills scale developed by Yang, Yoon-Lan & Oh, Gyeong-Ja in 2005 for evaluations, and the sub-variables of the evaluation tool included 9 independence-related questions and 10 cooperation-and-sympathy-related questions. Also, this study used SPSS 18.0, and performed a paired t-test to verify gender differences in the peer relational skill changes before and after experiencing the program.

Result : The participation in the ¡®Mind Class¡¯, a program developed by the Child & Adolescent Support Team of Seoul Mental Health Center showed a meaningful result(P<.001). This proved the positive effect of the ¡®Mind Class¡¯ on improving the peer relationships among elementary and middle school students. This study also proved that the positive effect of the participation of the program on both male and female students was statistically meaningful(P<.001).

Conclusion : This study proved that the ¡®Mind Class¡¯, the school-based program, was statistically meaningful to improve the peer relational skills of children and adolescent. Moreover, the ¡®Mind Class¡¯ was one of formal school educational curricula to teach children and adolescent about mental health and to protect them from maladjustment to their school environment. It was a meaningful program directly run by the teachers of schools.
